IMDb Buzz iPhone app tries to tap into entertainment news

The standard IMDb already provides some entertainment-related news, but the IMDb team has now taken its news dissemination a step further with the app IMDb Buzz — Entertainment News for iPhone and iPod Touch.

IMDb Buzz provides continuously updated entertainment news on its “Buzz” home screen. When you tap into a story, you’ll be able to see its first few paragraphs. To see an entire story, you’ll need to tap the provided full-article link. This link opens inline, but the requirement to open yet another page isn’t ideal for quick reading. In addition to the story excerpt, IMDb Buzz also provides links for related people, movies and TV as well as options for sharing via email, text, Twitter or Facebook. I like that users can explore related items, but full IMDb specs aren’t integrated — instead Buzz launches the regular IMDb app, if you have it installed.

IMDb Buzz also offers options for following topics, sources or celebs. You can add these names via current stories you’re reading, or type in keywords manually from the “Following” panel. The ability to customize your source feed or who and what you’re reading about is a big plus for this app. There’s also a search function to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

IMDb Buzz — Entertainment News also offers access to IMDb’s STARMeter, MOVIEMeter and the popular “Born Today” roundup. Overall, Buzz is an adequate news aggregator, however, I wish its information were fully integrated into the regular IMDb app so users wouldn’t need to keep two apps installed.
