Five new apps now playing on your iPhone

Sometimes the best way to tap into movies is on the small screen of your iPhone (or related mobile media device). Whether you enjoy bonus scenes and material from major Hollywood releases or are looking for somebody across the globe to challenge your movie trivia chops, there are hundreds of interesting iPhone apps you can download that fit the script.

Here are five new releases that have our thumbs up and active.

While there are a number of film trivia apps for the iPhone, few are as comprehensive as this title which offers more than 5,000 questions in 15 different categories. Unlike most versions of Scene It, this will take you some time to complete. There are plenty of visual questions as well, where you have to guess the name of the actor or actress from images or video clips. You can play solo while passing the time, and submit your scores to Twitter and Facebook if you want to test your knowledge against a worldwide audience. A great social game, you can also play head-to-head against friends in the same room. Great entertainment, for less than the price of a small popcorn.

Amazon Mobile (Free)

Yes, this is an app for purchasing items from Amazon, but it’s included here because it actually allows you to view a tremendous amount of movie trailers. The good news is that you can also purchase them if you want, right from your iPhone, iTouch or iPad. Obviously, the best viewing experience will be on the 9.7-inch screen of the iPad. Of course, there are plenty of other things movie buffs can do after the download the app, including purchase books and soundtracks from their favorite flicks.

MovieFX (Free)

This iPhone app lets you apply many different types of filter effects to your photos with a cinematic theme. Cool effects include “This is Sparta”, “Twilight”, and “Horror Film”. While there are similar apps that turn your photos into funky art or novelties, this one focuses on cinema and Hollywood.
