Five iPhone apps to create sweet treats this holiday season

From cookies to conquer the craziest sugar craving to crust-less pies to balance your chakras, iPhone apps are the way to go when you want to spice up your holiday baking rituals. Here are five very different and unique baking apps that are sure to inspire you to try a new recipe out this year and maybe even find a new family tradition.

Appetites’ Easy as Pie featuring Evan Kleiman ($19.99)

Nothing says home for the holidays quite like mom’s homemade pies (or in my house, a pumpkin pie from Frisch’s or a French Silk pie from Baker’s Square). When you open up the Easy as Pie iPhone app, you are greeted by a somewhat mischievous set of videos that make pie baking look like naughty fun. If you are playing around with the idea of trying out a new pie recipe for the holidays or even making baking one of your New Year’s resolutions, then you should definitely download this pie making stacked iPhone app.

Martha Stewart Makes Cookies ($1.99)

Tired of the same old family cookie recipes? Spice up your holiday cookie exchange with a new recipe from the domestic diva, Martha Stewart. The free Martha Stewart Makes Cookies iPhone app is filled with fabulous cookie recipes such as peanut butter cinnamon cookies, double chocolate mint cookies, molasses drops, and eggnog cheesecake bars. And right now for the holidays you can download the “Sugar & Spice” and “Holiday” cookie recipe packs for free in-app.

Looking for even more cooking apps? Try these.

Good Food Cake Recipes ($2.99)

Are you more into cake than cookies and pie? Then check out the Good Food Cake Recipes iPhone app for some stellar cake recipes like cappuccino cake, chocolate dipped cherry cake, fruity spongy cake, and many more. Categories within the app make it easy for you to locate a recipe that will work for you. You can search by special diets, quick and easy, and more. There are more than just sheet cake recipes, too. Think muffins, mini cakes, and the like. This handy baking app also features a shopping list and baking timer that you can shake to add five minutes.

Appetites (Free)

The free Appetites iPhone app is a fabulous way to add some unique cheer to your holiday gatherings with new recipes this year. Look up recipes by chef and buy the recipe in-app complete with cooking class. This is one of the more interactive cooking and recipe iPhone apps that I have seen. You can buy individual recipes or buy the whole pack if you like what you see from that chef. I’ve got my eye on the Banana Tiramisu by Christina Ross and the Pumpkin Butter by Elizabeth Jeanne.

Yogicfoods ($1.99)

Looking for some vegetarian baking recipes this holiday season? The YogicFoods iPhone app for baking is a nifty place to start. Filled with recipes like blueberry cheesecake, crust-less mango cake, and muesli cookies, this vegetarian baking iPhone app is sure to have something to please your health conscious guests at your holiday dinner. This app is also perfect for kicking off your New Year detox plan after the holidays. Find recipes to balance your chakras.
