Blow up the bad guys in Fragger Lost City iPhone game

Fragger Lost City is more or less your typical physics-based bomb-throwing game where the player has to find the correct angles to throw grenades from in order to eliminate enemy targets. Where Fragger Lost City errs is in a control system that attempts to add depth, but instead feels overly complicated.

In other bomb-throwers, Stupid Zombies for instance, the player taps a virtual crosshair on a portion of the screen. How far out the crosshair is pointed determines the power of the shot. In Fragger Lost City, there is a player-controlled shot power meter that determines the strength of the shot. That means you have to slide your finger to the left or right to set the power of the shot, while also aiming in the direction you want the bomb to go.

This feels sort of like rubbing your stomach and patting your head at the same time, and doesn’t exactly make for a fun gameplay experience. You’ll end up with far more accidental shots than you intended, and a whole lot of frustration.

But if you can get by the wonky controls, Fragger Lost City is a generally fun experience. The puzzles are very well-designed, and maneuvering the grenades over and around broken buildings makes for a great challenge.

It might not be my favorite physics-based game, but Fragger Lost City is a solid effort that has enough solid puzzle action to make a download worth it for fans of the genre. If you’ve never played a game like this, I wouldn’t necessarily start with Fragger Lost City, but this is a solid game nonetheless.
