Twitter addicts with Apple (AAPL) products are getting a big boost with the launch of iOS 5, featuring full integration with the social networking site. At its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, Apple announced that the newest version of its mobile operating system will have Twitter built into it.
The combination of the social networking powerhouse and iOS 5 will give anyone with an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch the opportunity to have automatic access to Twitter from their mobile device, without logging-in or manually adding an account each time. Additionally, Mail, Safari, Maps, Contacts, YouTube and Camera on the devices will be incorporated with Twitter, giving users the chance to send tweets directly from non-Twitter apps built into the device. As another bonus, Apple users can also utilize Twitter to automatically update contacts who have Twitter accounts.
Mashable pointed out that building Twitter into the operating system level gives a leg up to developers seeking to build further Twitter integration into their app experiences. Although this appears to give some credence to Twitter’s promise earlier this spring to work more with third-party mobile app developers, ZDNet argued that it seems Twitter is cutting out third-parties once again with its Apple partnership.
